Copenhagen Design Week was initiated by Denmark’s Ministry of Economic and Business Affairs and is developed and held by the Danish Design Center in cooperation with a series of partners – including The Dreyer Foundation.
From 27 August to 6 September, Copenhagen will be buzzing with design experiences, activities and debates with the launch of the first Copenhagen Design Week.
The goal of Design Week is to promote design competencies nationally and internationally towards the business community and the design-interested public.
During the premiere year 2009 before the UN climate conference, COP 15, the theme is sustainable design – a theme that the Dreyer Foundation has also chosen for its Honorary award on 22 October.
Common for all features during the Design Week is focus on design and architecture that becomes important for the business community, society and our climate. Alogether the week’s events demonstrated the positive role that design can play in relation to environmental and social challenges the world is facing.
Bo Rygaard, board member of The Dreyer Foundation, talks about the foundation’s support of Design Week:
’Through its support of Copenhagen Design Week, The Dreyer Foundation aims to be a part of facilitating sustainability in design and architecture. As the world appears today, sustainability is no longer something that can be opted in our out of. Sustainability is the prerequisite for continuing life.’
